Leana Sloan’s title at Prestonwood is account manager, which means that she’s responsible for connecting with multiple clients and managing the look and health of their properties’ landscaping needs. But it’s her personal touch and absolute joy in what she does every day that makes all the difference.
“So many of my clients allow me to do what I want because they know they’re going to get something amazing that way,” shared Leana. Getting to that point requires excellent communication skills and putting in the work it takes to build trust with each of them.
There’s also plenty of work behind the scenes that the clients never see, such as planning out each property, assembling the perfect crew, going beyond maintenance to enhance the landscaping, and keeping everything under budget and past codes and regulations. But that’s the kind of challenge that Leana savors.
She feels just as strongly about where she works, not just what she does each day. The open-door policy at Prestonwood means that she never has to worry about contributing new ways of working and solving challenges. When she has a question or needs an approval, she doesn’t need to go through numerous middle managers or red tape, either.
From the numerous training opportunities and a collaborative team dynamic to lunch and learn sessions that always teach employees something new, Prestonwood believes in growing its people just as much as its business.
So what does it take to succeed in the demanding field of commercial landscape maintenance? “The most important thing is passion,” said Leana. “That’s the most important thing that you need to work here.”
